Why did he run out of gas?

He explained that he can go 145-155 miles/tank of gas (3.5 gallons), but the win yesterday was so bad that he was able to only get 122 miles.

Thank you so much for the updates. I am not able to find any new updates on the Hoka Hey site, so it is nice to have and idea of what is going on. I see he’s goind throughthe Banff National Park right now, sceneries must be awesome! What a luck he has to compete for this race, even though the routes have been crazy, they trully did a great job to have all the riders hitting some great spots all around the US, and more than likely throughout Canada as well.
What’s your guess on his time of arrival now? I’d say if he’s got about 3,000 more miles to go, that’d be what? 3 to 4 days? He’d be in Alaska by the end of the week from what I see. Hopefully he won’t run out of gas again on those long roads out there, my understanding is that gas station are pretty sparse from now on!

Arnaud. From Missoula MT to Fairbanks, the HH map was about 2,300 miles which should take a couple of days. From Fairbanks to Homer, it’s about 570 miles straight, but the HH might add few more miles and sceneries. It is hard to tell when their expected arrival day will be considering that the Canadian highway signs have been pretty confusing to them so far. Chris is not on the road he is familiar with. Once in the Yukon, the gas stations are pretty spead out and are not open all night, so hopefully Chris will be more careful and not run out of gas considering that he has a very small gas tank (3.5 gallons).
