Very nice to have a realistic point of view on this (let’s call it) awkward event with indeed quite a few questions that will never be answered anyways. It is intriguing to me that those organizers are already announcing a 2nd event while this one was actually a failure from the organizational point of view. I kinda think that the name of this thing is a bit ternished now, and that it’s a mistake to go forward with it, especially considering the simple fact that it’s border illegal – just think about the fact that races that are not supervised by the enforcement are unauthorized in general … Anyways, IronButt challenge is clearly one of those well rounded events that trully show the riding spirit Glad to see you’re on it
Just finished reading your latest installment on the Hoka Hey. I had thought about riding in it but didn’t have enough time to fully get ready. After following you articles, keeping up with you on the SPOT tracker, and talking back and forth with your wife thru this media, I must say that I am glad that I didn’t participate. I do appreciate your honesty in your articles and the way in which you reported it to us. I have enjoyed following you in this adventure and hope to follow you in many more and just maybe, meeting you at one of them and riding with you. Thanks for everything. Terry
enjoyed your series!!… found your comment about not having seen (and not only you) the Champ to be quite interesting — i suppose the argument is that he was so far ahead of everyone, how would riders have seen him. Yet, by his own account, he was the last to leave Key West, and enjoyed “getting to know” the riders along the way (hmm, and how did he manage to stop and shoot the bull and kick tires, and have time to pull so far ahead of all of them?). Anyway, old news, with as you said, questions that will never be answered. But i’m glad to see you chose the IBA event for 2011; course, that’s just my personal bias showing.
